Good Evening (my first blog entry on the Tenth of July 2011)

I am Alex Hicken.

I am a college student, who is somewhat intelligent. I am an avid writer, keeping updated in life in my poetry, my music, my notes, my journal, and other hobbies like twitter.

About a month ago I began keeping myself updated with current events through many news organizations on twitter. Since I have lived with minor learning disabilities all my life, I desire to be a special education teacher. I don't have good reading habits, so the hundreds of tweets that I receive a day is good for now. My twitter account name is the same as the name of my blog, alexnhicken.

I am a Mormon, so I will keep this as kind of as a journal. That I may express myself in my desire to apply the scripture of the Doctrine and Covenants section 88:78-79. This is the word of God given to his people through Joseph Smith Jr., his first prophet of this last dispensation of the fullness of times.

"Teach ye diligently and my grace shall attend you, that you may be instructed more perfectly in theory, in principle, in doctrine, in the law of the gospel, in all things that pertain unto the kingdom of God, that are expedient for you to understand; Of things both in heaven and in the earth, and under the earth; things which have been, things which are, things which must shortly come to pass; things which are at home, things which are abroad; the wars and the perplexities of the nations, and the judgments which are on the land; and a knowledge also of countries and of kingdoms—"

This week I heard a lot of people say that this past week went by really fast, but to me looking back it feels like the Fourth of July was like two weeks ago. I was able to celebrate the independence of this great country by marching in a couple parades with the Watsonville Band. It was Sam Farr's Seventieth Birthday, so we stopped in the middle of the World's Shortest Parade. Surrounding his car, the band played happy birthday for him.

On news that impressed me on Twitter, it was almost annoying that every single news organization said former first lady Betty Ford died. I received like twenty texts from twitter saying that. The reverence for the former first lady was impressive.

The reverence for the current president is disgusting though. This evening my dad looked at my twitter, and he saw that Obama was calling for a decision on the debt talks in like ten days. My father was disgusted calling him a hypocrite because not too long ago President Obama turned in his budget, which asked for trillions of dollars, adding to the debt. Not one of the Senate approved of his budget. I can't talk much on politics because it is pointless.

This past week was also a monumental because NASA sent Atlantis, our space shuttle to the international space center. This final work of the series of projects sparked mixed feeling. The Economist called it a waste of money and a pointless mission.

Another great new of our times that I received in the tweets of this week is that our defense secretary believes Al Qaeda is on the run. They are defeat-able.

In my life, this past weekend was just as exciting as anything. I was able to go to the temple of God twice. At the Oakland Temple, I felt like I was on business in the work of the lord to help people receive the necessary ordinances for their salvation.

The work of temple is scary and mysterious to billions of people of this earth because we do work for the children of God who have died. The work is not mysterious or hidden, but people just don't take their time to try to understand truth. It is part of the plan of Salvation. We do work for people who never received the ordinances of the fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ; for example, an ordinance of the fullness of the gospel is baptism. The majority of mortal people would have a hard time, accepting the love and mercy of God. They may say how can one live a life of sin, be baptized by proxy, and receive the blessing of Salvation. There is a spiritual world, where all our died loved ones live. Many want the blessings of the Gospel of Jesus Christ; however, they cannot receive the blessing of salvation without the ordinances of the Gospel. Every knee shall bow and every touch shall confess Jesus is the Christ because our faithful dead elders of mortality preach the gospel in the spirit world to our beloved ancestors who never heard it, so they may have a chance to receive it too. It is as the elders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints go around in mortality, preaching the gospel that we may enjoy understanding truth and living up to it now. This is the work of the temple to give our deceased ancestors a chance to receive the gospel. The work is similar mortality, for the personalities of residence do not change in the spirit world. They are just as humble or stubborn as they were in their mortality; however, the power of the word of God changes people, purifying them little by little.

It is most important to ensure that we are worthy to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ in our life now. I feel like I will be writing forever explaining everything. I will have to wait though. I have written more at http://mormon.org/me/1857-eng/AlexanderNielsonH. This is my mormon.org account. I encourage all to explore the wisdom that God has given to us. God has called Joseph Smith and his successors so that he can reveal and restore truth to us. Reading the bible can be so confusing. There is so many different interpretations. There is truth to be understood in the word of God, so we can all be united in one mind and spirit. Don't be shy to request the missionaries to learn of the fullness of the gospel and the plan of salvation at mormon.org.

I have one more most wondrous doctrine that I desire to explain. I participated in this most wondrous work in my first trip to the temple of our God this past week. In this work we seal the marriages of our beloved fathers and mothers, so their marriages are no longer 'to death do they part'. Their marriage will be sealed for time and all eternity! Please don't over think this, for this is the greatest blessing that we all strive for to have a family, a happy perfect family that will live forever. You can be the father of your children forever. You can be the brother of your sister forever. Your can be the son of your father forever. God is the judge of the technical stuff of mortality, so there is no use doubt his great wisdom of his plan of Salvation. Let us trust God.

I write these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen
