The United Nations impressively has 193 states of nations in it's assembly, and they have a demographic, showing the nations of law standard of living according the the standard prepared by the Pakistani economist Mahbub-ul-Haq and the Indian economist Amartya Sen. It is called the Human Development Index. There are three variables listed as the following indexes: the life expectancy index, education index, and the Income index. Life expectancy is the average age lived by a person. Education is measured between the mean years and the expected years of education, and the income index is measured between a decent standard of income and the gross national income.
Gross National Income "is an add up of Net Income from abroad and the GDP." With these calculated results, the UN rates the countries from low, medium, high, and very high on the Human Development Index. I wonder if Life expectancy, Education, and the Income are indicators of a good standard of living, and I believe that they are very good choices in the development of the HDI. I looked at the formula for the income part of the formula to see what the world is compared with, for I saw the number $107,721, which seem to be the maximum for the GNI per capita. I looked to determine if this is true, and how they calculated this maximum. I found that my assumption is true for the Maximum Gross National Income divided per by the population of Qatar in 2011 is $107,721. Now that I determined the worth of the Human Development Index is good. I see that the countries are compared to each other by a decimal number below 1. How do I can I understand them?
I wondered how they determine the expected years of schooling, and there is a crazy formula. I don't understand the formula at this time. "School life expectancy is an average based on participation in different levels of education." The expected years of schooling for the United States has been calculated to be 16.7 as Australia's is 20.7. Jamaica's is 14.4. I found a list of the top 30 from the year 2000. 66% of Senegalese youth aged 15-24 do not complete primary school and find themselves without qualification.
Since I visited China, Thailand, and Jamaica, I understood the currency exchange rate as an indicator of the comparison of nations. I see that compared to the United States currency is worth 1.28 times more than the euro currency, so I can think that the conditions comparing these nations. The US' condition is 1.28 times better then all of the EU. The conditions in China are 6 times worse than US. Thailand is 30, and Jamaica is 90 time worse condition wise. Imagining how a nation can be 90 times better is interesting, but comparing the US to Jamaica is a good indicator. Of course some nations manipulate the worth of their currency, so that it does not make sense like Japan. I don't know if people should interpret that the US' conditions are 80 times better than Japan; although, people can.
Now I have to interpret the HDI.
"It is used to distinguish whether the country is a developed, a developing or an underdeveloped country, and also to measure the impact of economic policies on quality of life....Over half of the world's population live in countries with "medium human development" (51%), while less than a fifth (18%) populate countries falling in the "low human development" category. Countries with "high" to "very high" human development account for slightly less than a third of the world's total population (30%)."
The top five is Norway, Australia, Netherlands, United States, and New Zealand. The order is the ranking order. The United States is ranked 4th. The average is 0.630, and the United States is at 0.910, and Norway is at 0.943. These nations suppose to have high rates of life expectancy, a high level of education, and a high income. Gross National Index represents more than income; although, it can be strictly seen that way. Life Expectancy is not to complicated, and the amount of education that the people get is an interesting calculation. The five lowest nations are Chad, Mozambique, Burundi, Niger, and Democratic Republic of the Congo. DR Congo's HDI is the worst with 0.286. Senegal is part of the low human developing nations at .459. There are so many different parts to the formulas. The HDI formula depends on formulas. The status seem to be mainly shown for development as the index is named of human kind for a specific nation. The increase and the decrease is a depiction of the change of human relations for better of worse. I can imagine that there is a lot of violence in these countries. The situation can't afford education. There could be many diseases that plague these people, and medical treatment is extremely rare to get.
Let us see the conditions in the worst Nation on the Human Development Index. I just looked at the currency exchange rate of Democratic Republic of Congo for my interpretation of the conditions of the nation. The United States currency is worth 919.74 times more than their currency of the Congolese franc. I don't know how imagine a situation nearly a thousand times worse than my nation, but the research will reveal a hint of the life is endured their. The first thing that I notice is the evil efforts of the Lord's Resistance Army to exploit humanity in that region lead by Joseph Kony, who is believed to be in hiding or dead. The M23 Rebels too are causing much sorrow with similar crimes listed at the Human Rights Watch website as including summary executions, rapes, and forced recruitment. The LRA were accused of murder, abduction, mutilation, child-sex slavery and forcing children to participate in hostilities. There appears to be many militant groups similar to the two that I mentioned. In Jamaica each neighborhood would have a vicious gang, and DR Congo's situation is ten times worse (according to my interpretation of the currency ratio). Can you imagine the crazy gangs and the corruption and their strength within Jamaica? How would you imagine the leaders of these gangs? The leaders of these crucial leaders are embodied in the leader of the Lord's Resistance Army and the M23 rebels, but these individual's malicious nature is ten times worse.
Let us go to the basic variables of the Human Development Index. The Life expectancy at birth is 48.4. This number is not the children survival rate, but it is approxiately the average life span. Only 4 of every 5 five year of children live, and "most of these deaths are due to malaria, acute respiratory infections (in particular, pneumonia), diarrhoeal diseases, measles, HIV/AIDS, anaemia and malnutrition." In DRC, children under the age of 14 are 44% of the population; 15-64 is 53%, and older than 65 is only 2.6%. The median age is 17.6 years. 540 out of 100,000 birth end up killing the mother. 12.6% of children die in infancy. Compared to the United States, population under age 14 is 20%. 15-64 is 66.8%, and over 65 is 13%. The median age is 37.1 years. 13 of every 100,000 die giving birth, and 1 percent of children die in infancy. Our expected life at birth is 78 years.
The School life expectancy (primary to tertiary education) is a total of 8 years. The Literacy rate is 66 percent among adults. The mean years of schooling is 3.5 years. The primary school completion rate is 55.9%
The yearly gross national income per capita is 280 American dollars. 76.4% of people live in slums.
There is a lot more research that I can do, but I should stop for now.
