The Daily World News Report of the 3rd of March 2020

Coronavirus

Iran reports 845 new cases of the virus on Tuesday, adding 11 deaths to their count with a total of 77. 435 people recovered of the 2336 total number of infected people in Iran.[1] Germany, France, and UK sent a 5 million euro aid package to Iran including “both material and financial support to combat the rapid spread of the disease”; furthermore, ”The material will be transported urgently by plane on 2 March and will include equipment for laboratory tests, as well as other equipment, including protective body suits and gloves.”[2] Russia confirms their fourth case of Coronavirus yesterday. It is the first developed within the country; although, the person contracted it in Italy. [3] Saudi Arabia reports their first case of the virus from Iran.[4] Indonesia reports their first two cases from Malaysia.[5] 7 more people died due to Coronavirus in the US state of Washington, totaling 9 people.[6] The CDC releases more than 120 from quarantine to their residence of San Antonio, Texas after confirming that they have recovered.[7]

Tornadoes ravage a southern state of the United States

Many tornadoes ravage the southern state of the United States of Tennessee on Monday. At least 19 people died so far, and 9 were added to the death toll this morning.[8]

United States Gymnastics seeks settlement

“USA Gymnastics has proposed a $215 million settlement to compensate victims” on January 30.[9] Over a month later Simone Biles, the current Olympic Gymnastics champion, and Aly Raisman, a three-time Olympic gold medalist, both feel that the organization has not made proper restitution to the years of sexual abuse with more than 160 victims by their doctor Larry Nassar.[10] The proposal would exempt the US Olympics and Paralympic Committee as well as the former CEO and former national team coordinators of liability. The US Gymnastics organization has responded to their complaints with claims of due diligence, respect, and empathy.[11]
The Boy Scouts of America filed for bankruptcy to settle with victims in a similar situation affecting thousands of men a couple weeks ago.[12]

Afghanistan War Continues

The Taliban have ended their truce as attacks were carried out in two districts, “attacking five of our posts in Panjwahi and Maiwand," local police chief Sultan Mohammad Hakimi told AFP.” Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid also told AFP, "The reduction in violence... has ended now and our operations will continue as normal,… As per the (US-Taliban) agreement, our mujahideen will not attack foreign forces but our operations will continue against the Kabul administration forces."[13] An explosion in east Afghanistan killed three, injuring eleven others.[14]

Syrian Civil War

Assad’s regime captures Saraqeb, a strategic city, in south Idlib as the Turkish forces downs a Syrian fighter jet, “the third such shot-down in three days.”[15]

Iran has stockpiled five times the agreed limit of enriched uranium

The International Atomic Energy Agency determined that as of February 19, 2020 Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium is five times the agreed limit of 300 kilograms at 1510 kilograms. The United States forsook the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran after 3 years, including Germany, France, the United Kingdom, China, and Russia. Iran has not been cooperative as the UN has been seeking access to two facilities for review; furthermore, they have not sufficiently replied to inquiries of the organization. Some analysts can argue that the stockpile is enough to load a nuclear weapon; however, the report states that the uranium needs to be enriched more than 20 times their current level of 4.5%, having “several more steps, including further enrichment, to make it suitable for use in an atomic bomb.”[16]

China’s Forced Labor in Factories

Australian Strategic Policy Institute composed a report, identifying 83 famous companies that have Uighur Muslim forced labor as part of their manufacturing supply chain in China. The brands include “Apple, BMW, Gap, Huawei, Nike, Samsung, Sony and Volkswagen.” Twenty-seven factories force at least 80,000 of the Muslim minority to labor. These jobs were given after graduation from “vocational centres”, where the people are detained, enduring many atrocities as I have previously reported. “Uighurs continued to live “a harsh, segregated life” once they entered the workforce of major factories”[17]

Persuade men to come unto the God of Abraham

I am starting to read 1 Nephi chapter 7 in the Maxwell Institute Study Edition of the Book of Mormon. I was inspired by the words of Nephi in chapter 6 verse 4 & 5:
“For the fulness of mine intent is that I may persuade men to come unto the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, and be saved. Wherefore, the things which are pleasing unto the world I do not write, but the things which are pleasing unto God and unto those who are not of the world.”
I thought to myself what I would write “that I may persuade men to come unto the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, and be saved.”
A lot of my writing teaches about the nature of God. I just concluded a series of articles, seeking to persuade man that Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost has been the God of all nations from the beginning. A verse that I read from our “Come, follow me” family scripture study yesterday expounded on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is 2 Nephi chapter 31 verse 21:
“And now, behold, my beloved brethren, this is the way; and there is none other way nor name given under heaven whereby man can be saved in the kingdom of God. And now, behold, this is the doctrine of Christ, and the only and true doctrine of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, which is one God, without end. Amen.”
John the Baptist baptizes Jesus Christ.
God has an orderly, simple, and clear path. He is a God of truth. Heavenly Father seeks that all men will be happy and that they may understand the everlasting joy of the gospel, which will lead to eternal life. Eternal life is a life with our families. Heavenly Father has everlasting joy, and he would like all men to join him; however, no unclean thing can enter into his Kingdom, and a path is laid for everyone to be cleansed. Jesus Christ is the central figure in preparing the way, for all mankind would have been lost without him. His perfection and divine nature enabled him to be a mediator of man to forgive them of their sins, preparing man to obtain the Kingdom, if they follow the Godly way within his gospel. Heavenly Father oversaw the atonement of Jesus Christ that he can rightfully redeem all man of their sins. The orderly, simple, and clear path includes obtaining faith in Jesus Christ, repenting of your sins, following the covenant path from baptism to the temple ordinances, and enduring to the end. Heavenly Father has taught all nations that only through Christ can salvation be obtained.
Nephi wrote similarly in verse 20 of the same chapter of 31 of his second book:
“Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life.”

The Daily World News Report of the 2nd of March 2020

Coronavirus

The Coronavirus has its first casualties in the United States over the weekend as two people have died in Washington State, and one died in New York State.[1] NBC also reports that the Florida Department of Health confirms two cases in separate counties in the state with a tweet, quoting the following statement on March 1, 2020 at 6:55 PM: “Florida has 2 presumptive positive #COVID19 cases: one adult resident of Hillsborough County and one adult resident of Manatee County. Both individuals are isolated and being appropriately cared for.” South Korea reports 599 cases of the virus, being the largest of a country’s count outside of China. They have also announced 6 deaths on Monday. The Shincheonji Church of Jesus’s leaders have received a murder investigation criminal complaint by officials of Seoul for “its refusal to cooperate with efforts to contain the disease.”[2] February 29th was the highest rate of new infection for Mainland China with a count of 573. The death count for that day is 35 as “the tally of deaths in mainland China is now 2,870, the National Heath Commission said.”[3] Armenia[4] and Jordan reports there first Coronavirus case today.[5]

Afghanistan: US & Taliban signs peace deal

The United States and the Taliban agrees to peace in a deal, planning “for the U.S. to pull all its forces out of Afghanistan over the next 14 months.” This comes after a successful week of reduction in violence. The war is in its eighteenth year. [6]

Malaysia’s New Prime Minister

I reported recently that Mahathir Mohamad resigned his position as Prime Minister of Malaysia due to corruption within the government. Muhyiddin Yassin was named Prime Minister by the king on Sunday; although, he does not have majority support. “The process to appoint the prime minister cannot be delayed because the country needs a government for the wellbeing of the people and the nation,” a palace statement said.[7]

Turkey opens their western border to migrants

Turkey opened their western borders as a result of the Syrian Civil War and Assad’s regime, pressuring the Syrian rebels at their last position. Turkey has been the predominant supporter against Assad’s regime; however, the war is coming to a close. On the Syrian war front of Idlib, “Syria’s official news agency said two of its warplanes were shot down by Turkish forces inside northwest Syria on Sunday”.[8]
Turkey hosts more than 3,600,000 refugees, and nearly one million camp at their border to Syria according to my report from the 27th of February 2020. The UN determined that more than 13,000 refugees have gathered at Turkey’s western border country of Greece. Greece arrested 66 migrants last Friday and 70 more on Saturday for illegal border crossing. “Greek authorities fired tear gas and stun grenades through Saturday to prevent repeated attempts by a crowd of more than 4,000 people massed at the border crossing in Kastanies to cross.”[9]

Nigerian villages attacked

Six villages were attacked in the Igabi district in Kaduna, a state in Nigeria. The assailants numbered about 100 armed men were not exactly determined after they kill 50 people in the following villages: Kerawa, Rago, Zareyawa, Marina, Hashimawa, and Unguwar Barau. Boko Haram and bandits are suspected of the attacks on Sunday.[10]

Jihadists attack Mali army

The Mali army base in Mopti reported an attack at the village of Mondoro by jihadists on Sunday. “A local official said the militants had launched the assault "using rocket launchers fired at parked military vehicles"”, killing about 5 soldiers. The counterattacks, including airstrikes, did not conclude with a count of the assailants killed.[11]

The Daily World News Report of the 28th of February 2020

Coronavirus

“Coronavirus panic sent world share markets crashing again, compounding their worst week since the 2008 global financial crisis and bringing the wipeout to $5 trillion.”[1] “The Dow (INDU) dropped 1,191 points, or 4.4% in its worst one-day point drop in history” “on Thursday as worries about coronavirus mounted”.[2] Switzerland’s case count was increased to 4, adding three more yesterday, as Denmark and Estonia reports their first infections[3] as well as New Zealand.[4] Wales also reports their first case, bringing the United Kingdom’s count to 19.[5] Malaysia reports 2 more cases, totaling their tally to 25.[6] Israel confirms its seventh case of Coronavirus, detecting two new ones. One is from Italy and the other was from the Diamond Princess Cruise.[7] China “has 78,824 infected and 2,788 deaths… as 55 other countries -- including Mexico [reporting their first today] -- and territories are affected with 4,846 cases and 77 deaths.”[8]

New Immigration Law of India

According to Times of India, there has been no reports of violence since Tuesday; however, they are recovering people lost from the conflict. A report says that they are finding bodies in drains, and another death was counted. This is the same publication that reported that the situation was under control on Wednesday where more injuries were reported the following day.[9] These additionally injured recovered may be from people that were not found within the first day. The article reports 130 are arrested with an additional 400 detained.

Bolivia’s Election Results

Although Bolivia is planning to redo their election in May 2020, “a U.S. research center said Thursday that 'no evidence of fraud' was found in Bolivia's presidential elections last October, which resulted in the ouster of former President Evo Morales.” Morales won his fourth term, “which was beyond the legal limit”, and protests have claimed “the ballot was rigged”, demanding the redo.[10]

Fake Tahitian Prince
Joel Morehu-Barlow was deported to Auckland, New Zealand from the United Kingdom after serving a 14 year sentence since 2013. He “pleaded guilty to five fraud and three drug offences”. He used his fraudulent position to steal 16 million dollars from Queensland Health between 2007 and 2011.[11]

“Remain in Mexico”

On Friday a federal appeals court suspends “the ‘Remain in Mexico’ measure [that] took effect in January 2019 … [with] nearly 60,000 people have been sent back to wait for hearings.” The positives of the measure that is it eliminates the risk of the illegal immigrants from escaping within the United States, and the negatives are that the camp is in a dangerous area, where “there were more than 800 public reports of rape, kidnapping, torture, and other violent crimes against asylum seekers who have been sent back to Mexico.”[12]

Malawi legalizes Cannabis, but not for recreational use

Malawi seeks to diversify the countries industry by legalizing the farming of Cannabis for industrial and medical purposes. The bill was passed on Thursday. It is a small country near the coast at southeast Africa surrounded by Tanzania, Zambia, and Mozambique.[13]

Migrants returning to Mexico

The panga boat operators are known to “do anything they can to make a dollar”, and “authorities were searching for the boat and two operators, according to US Border Patrol Agent Kurtis Kantura.” The boat operators may have been hired to return migrants to Mexico, but 16 were dumped off the coast of San Diego, California. Three are missing, and thirteen are in hospitals.[14]

Sex Offenders increase five times in an Australian state

In the Australian state of New South Wales, the records of the known child sex offenders is dysfunctional and “often incomplete” as the count has multiplied more than five times since 2014. “In October 2003, there were 916 people on the register; by last year, there were 4344. Yet there has been no proportionate increase in resources.”  The mismanagement of the situation has become inoperable, letting sex offenders go untracked.[15]

“I am able to do mine own work”

During family scripture study, we explored the following questions from “Come Follow Me”, concerning 2 Nephi 27:20-21: What might the Lord mean when He says, “I am able to do mine own work”? How does this truth influence the way we serve in His Church?
Previous to the session with Jessica, I was reading of the sons of Lehi’s attempts to retrieve the brass plates from Laban. I asked Jessica God’s purpose for her new calling. She said something like to help the youth come unto Christ by mental, social, physical, and spiritual achievements. I was prompted to ask her if she believed in God’s purpose because your belief is expressed in your effort.
Laman asks Laban for the brass plates.
Laman received the commandment of God, but he did not believe in the commandment of God. He probably relied on God too much. He merely asked Laban for the brass plates, explaining that the genealogy of his fathers are on the plates. Who can say whether this is the best way to fulfill the commandment to obtain the brass plates?
2 Nephi 27:21 states “I am able to do mine own work.” Nephi believed this. We may face daunting roles to fulfill in work and callings, but if we believe that God can guide us, we can fulfill the commandments of the Lord.
How do we not rely on God too much? How can we get God’s guidance?
I said that Laman relied on God too much because he expected that God would provide the plates merely by asking. God said the following to teach Oliver Cowdery:
“You have supposed that I would give it unto you, when you took no thought save it was to ask me. But, behold, I say unto you, that you must study it out in your mind; then you must ask me if it be right, and if it is right I will cause that your bosom shall burn within you; therefore, you shall feel that it is right.”
Do you expect that God will do things for you without your due diligence?
I already gave you the path to receive God’s guidance in the verses that I quoted above.
The point of this article is that to fulfill the commandments of God. You need to believe that God has the power to fulfill his word through you or in your life. Nephi believed this in many people’s favorite scripture.
“And it came to pass that I, Nephi, said unto my father: I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them.” (1 Nephi 3:7)
