February 5, 2014

This past week has been kind of big. I am going to write about two things. Our branch presidency in my Young Single Adult unit has been changed, and working with Trevor at Santa Cruz Nutritionals will be my second topic.
First of all, Nathalia, the Brazilian foreign English student, left last Sunday. That night we needed to do some last minute shopping, and Trevor and I went with her. I didn't want to deal with Trevor's driving skills and left them. He was driving the car as if it is his, and we had not arranged how we would pay for gas. Trevor had us drive to the mall, when it was only across the street. Trevor's skills of driving was so bad that he did not consider trying to look for the pedestrians before, turning right, and he almost ran over a skateboarder. I could not deal with him, so my good bye to Nathalia was me being fed up with Trevor and leaving before they returned home.
Nathalia and I did not do much together, for we learned that the Brazilian culture is different than what we have. At age 14, the families let their children live as if they are on their own, and they hang out with friends until unknown hours, not knowing what they do. I think that it is ironic that, the past branch president of my YSA unit, President Brad Burgon, his wife namely Andrea said that she believes a scientific study, saying that people lose their common sense at age fourteen, and they don't get it back until the early to mid-twenties. I think that my journal entry has been on topic well, for Trevor's driving skills story will transition to my experiences with Trevor at work, teaching him the skills needed at the factory. Talking about getting a new branch presidency will be the other topic, but I am deciding which of the two topic to write about next.
I will start by writing about working with Trevor. We both worked in the same station, so we were able to work very closely. I found that I needed to teach him the skills of the workplace, when he was bumping a tall rack full of candy on things. We worked on the production line called hand table, and one job that we have to do is called dumping. We dump the candy usually in machines, but we dump candy onto a table in the hand table line. There are special skills that I have learned to dump efficiently over the years, and I love how Trevor and I connected because we are able to have a lot of fun together as I taught him how to dump on the hand table.
It took us back to the days, when we watched cartoons on Saturday mornings. We recalled the anime Ultimate Muscle because I don't know the names of any other wrestling moves, practicing the Kinniku Buster. On the hand table, it took me a while to warm up to the activity because I have not dumped at the production line for months. After dumping most of the candy out of a tray there is usually candy left stuck on the tray. I remember how I have learned to dump in a way that the candy would rarely stick on the tray. I had to teach him the technique of what I learned over the years, and we felt that we were weight training, learning a wrestling move. The trays usually weighs about thirty pounds, and it was funny how Trevor could barely lift it. I remember about a decade ago. I dared him to hold a ten pound dumb bell above his head because I did not believe that he was strong enough. When he tried, he fell over like tying a weight to a flower. I think that he lived up only to my expectation though. I did not expect him to be able to hold the the dumb bell over his head, so he didn't. In the exercise, learning how to dump, I taught that he needs to lift the tray like a shoulder press up, flip it upside down, and hit the edge on a curved surface of the table. Trevor struggled at first to lift the thirty pound tray, but he lived up to my expectation. It was fun, practicing the Kinniku Buster. I love teaching especially when I am successful. Trevor was so thrilled to knock all the product off the tray in one hit. Scraping off the candy off the tray is takes time, and is a little annoying.
One time I was working with Trevor sorting out bad product, and I told him about parables that I think about when sorting. Out of the many jobs sorting makes me think of parables. Sorting in itself can be related to virtue. Sorting has the intent to get rid of all of the product that is not good. It can be related to thoughts, media, music, and many other things. I believe that all thoughts are given to our thought processes by the light of Christ, the Holy Ghost, the natural man, and the spirits of Satan. We need to sort out the bad thoughts to remain pure. Productivity is important to sort out distractions too. When sorting, many times we look to sort out the worst defects in the product, but there is less worse defect to take out of the line. I try to sort out looking at many levels of defects sorting them out all at once. If we only sort out the worst product, you are not removing the actual problem. One time the line suddenly started shooting out a new color that should not be in the product, when we were sorting out really deformed product. On the other end, people were putting the product in boxes. When the inappropriate color was added to the product, we quickly switched the line to load the candy onto trays instead of boxes. One lady did not make the transition sorting out the product, quickly to put it in the boxes. I did not believe that she could sort out all of the bad product so fast. I think that she was taking out only the miscolored product, missing the deformed product they we were looking for before. I did not believe that she could sort out all the bad product at once in such a short period of time. You cannot maintain a highly productive line without good sorting skills applied to the production.
Another analogy from pondering sorting out the defective product from the production line is relating the product to people. Not everyone is made perfect, and it does not mean that the candy was not created with the same purpose and intent. Sometimes the product is not whole, and sometimes it had other things within or on it that makes it hard for people to say it is good. Sometimes the product has things called tails, and we were told a while ago to pick them off, putting the candy back in the line, if it is whole. I am a bold person, and I am not ashamed of the Gospel standards. I believe that there is a strong liberal movement in the world today. If I say or do anything opposing its values, I will be attacked with propaganda, telling me that my belief is immoral. I will relate this parable to the trials homosexual people may endure. This is my journal, and I want my posterity to know that I do not espouse most of the liberal movement's agenda. I read an article about homosexual people, so we can understand them better. One of the principle that was taught was to 'not to let your sexuality define you.' I understood that principle as, if you have homosexual feelings; don't let it force you to think that you cannot fulfill the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The tendency of homosexual feelings does not need to determine your destination. It is like the product that has something extra to endure the make it through to remain with the good product. The people that are faithful to do their best at living the Gospel of Jesus Christ will receive eternal life. There are many people that have to endure something more than the average person because we live in mortality, and it is not a perfect world.
Working in the sorting line with Trevor, I also told him that some times it feels like we are playing a puzzle game or a lame cell phone game. The more perfect you sort out the bad product the more points that you get. One game that I thought of was with organic jelly beans. I smash deformed jelly beans together. If I guess the jelly bean that does not break from the impact, I win that round. As you can tell, my job does not require much mental exertion like the jobs dealing with people. Now I will transition to writing about the branch presidency of my unit.
Last Sunday in branch conference, the Ocean YSA Branch got a new branch presidency. The experience was very emotional for many people. President Burgon was the branch president, and he is a cousin of my father. That made the branch special for me the past six years that they have been serving. I don't mind the change though. I am told from the perspective of the presidency that my presence stabilizes the branch greatly, when I am home. In my perspective, I feel that I have divided the branch more than I united it. I have been in the branch longer than the branch presidency, and I have been apart of branch things, seeing many people no longer with us for a reason or another. One thing that I learned is that division between people comes because there is a lack of mutual understanding. I have seen many relationships develop tension, and we did not have any contentious situations. I have been taught to not do anything for these situations in life. When I told Trevor these thoughts, I was reminded by him the verses from Matthew 10:

34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

That was a little comforting, but they are still gone.

Hi all, my first article was about the service.
Serving in a household, we can also provide support services for people affected by natural disasters. I am volunteer .Sometimes I help teaching English at the church with missionaries. Being Happy When There Is Nothing To Be Happy About

Not every moment in our lives are we going to be at our best.
Wouldn't we all love to say that we can be happy even when life is sad.
That we can find the silver lining in any situation.
But thats just not true 100% of the time.

Even me-who's motto in life is Smile Because it Happened, couldn't find anything to smile about.

So here is my message.  I've been there.  I feel your...pain? sadness? melancholy?
I also I hope that it ends for you soon.
Keep trying to look for the good.  Even if you can't find it.
There will be a day, when you will wake up and see a beautiful sunrise or hear a beautiful song on the radio, and you will appreciate it.
And you'll realize you are healing...you are getting better.  And you will be happy again.

The Morning Breaks!

"Hey, I thought you were dead!"

No, we were incredibly busy. Lots of things have happened since the last time I blogged! We've had transfers, I'm still in Granger, and there was a lot - and I mean a lot of teaching to be done.

It was wonderful. And I'm back!

"Good! What are we hearing about today?"

Well, we're going to talk about one of my new favorite hymns. I've been listening to it almost non-stop for a week, now!

***

"And I saw another angel fly
in the midst of heaven, having
the everlasting gospel"
"The morning breaks, the shadows flee;
Lo, Zion’s standard is unfurled!
The dawning of a brighter day,
Majestic rises on the world."

How glorious! "The morning breaks, the shadows flee"! This is beautiful imagery - the thought of this hymn came to me as I read this passage of Scripture:

"The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light; they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined."
2 Nephi 19:2

Just imagine - how long had these people been searching for the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ? The pure, unadulterated truth. The Lord knew that there would be many who would search for the Light that the Gospel is while in "the land of the shadow of death," as He said to His Prophet, Amos:

"¶Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:
"And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it."
Amos 8:11-12

People were waiting for the Standard of Zion to be unfurled! Eager, anxious - they knew where they wanted to be, but had no direction. That is, until they saw "the dawning of a brighter day".

Members of the Church sustain
Elder Jeffrey R. Holland as a
Prophet, Seer, and Revelator
During Christmas of 2012, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles came to our Mission and addressed us for a Christmas Conference. He spoke very powerfully regarding this - the brighter day:

"Isiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel; Peter, James, and John; Alma, Amulek, Mormon and Moroni all knew they would not succeed in their time... [T]hey saw you. Your hour, your day, and your face is what kept them going. Ours is the dispensation that will succeed... Ours is the day that every Prophet, Priest and King would dream of."

love how this hymn explains the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ - there are so many things that just come rushing to my mind; I love the Restored Gospel.

This majestic hymn tells us that with the coming of the Brighter Day, that the "clouds of error [will] disappear". With the Restoration of the Gospel, soso many things which were understood only through the "clouds of error" were made clear. What are some of the things that the Restored Gospel clarify?
As said above, these are but some of the things that were brought back with the Restoration of the Gospel.

"Why was a Restoration necessary?"

Well, you see, it's pretty simple. However, we're going to define the word 'restoration'. We read that the word means: "the action of returning something to a former owner, place, or condition."

He sent His Son to die for us.
So, in order to gain a better understanding of the Restoration, we need to understand that God is our loving Father in Heaven, and that He wants us to be happy - far happier than we are right now. To help accomplish this, He has provided us with a wondrous plan - it's called the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It's named after His Only Begotten Son, and is centered around His - even Jesus Christ - life and His teachings.

You see, this Gospel - which blesses our families as well as ourselves independent of them - has been revealed to Prophets from the very beginning. These were mighty men such as Adam and Moses, Abraham, Elijah and and others. They have always dispensed the Gospel and it's ordinances to those who hearken to their counsel and words.

People don't always accept the Gospel - and you'll see that there is a pattern whereby the Gospel is given, accepted, and later rejected. When this happens, we find ourselves in an apostasy.

This pattern of Gospel acceptance and later rejection was something that continued from Adam all the way to Jesus Christ. When Christ came, He established His Church. He called Twelve ApostlesHe instructed them after the manner by which man would be saved.
Joseph Smith was The Lord's
chosen Prophet to restore
the Gospel.

Christ was rejected and crucified - after His Resurrection, Christ guided His Church through revelation; however, as time went on, people rejected the Gospel even further! The Apostles were killed, Priesthood authority was taken from the earth. It was during this time that the formation of many churches came about; more and more error - even corruption - crept into the simple, pure, and perfect Gospel that Jesus Christ taught. Time went on, and this confusion abounded.

This continued until 1820. This is where the Restoration of the Gospel comes in. Father had deemed the world ready for the long-prophesied "dawning of a brighter day"! A Prophet was chosen - his name was Joseph Smith.

This young boy had two questions - "Which church is true? Which church do I join?" Searching for the truth, he found counsel in the Bible; it was after receiving this counsel that the young boy decided to act - that is, he would "ask of God".

Of this experienceJoseph said:

"Humbly kneeling, sweet appealing--
'Twas the boy's first uttered prayer"

"I saw a pillar of light exactly over my head, above the brightness of the sun, which descended gradually until it fell upon me...

"When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other—This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!"

This event was the calling of Joseph Smith to be a Prophet through whom the Gospel would be restored in it's fullness! The Priesthood was restored, the Book of Mormon translated, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints reestablished!

***
Do we realize how blessed we are? We live in a time where we have the Gospel! Elder Jose L. Alonso of the First Quorum of the Seventy said the following in a Zone Conference to our mission:

"President Monson is our living Prophet. The Book of Mormon is here for us. Jesus Christ is the head of our Church. How can you be [insert negative emotion or feeling here]?"

My dear friends - I do declare that this wondrous message has been restored, and that it was through the Prophet Joseph Smith that our loving Father restored the Church of His Son! I know with every fiber of my being that Joseph Smith was a Prophet, and that this Gospel which was in desperate need of a Restoration was, in fact, restored.

I testify with wholeness of heart that our Father in Heaven will make the truth of this Restoration - this "dawning of a brighter day" - known unto you if you but ask Him humbly.

Ask Him. This is the first step.

Act on the knowledge you receive. This is the second.

The choice is now yours.

Mariama Wurie

Hi! I'm Mariama and I'm a twenty-something British expat living in Salt Lake City, Utah. And I'm Mormon

I studied Entrepreneurship at LDS Business College and I loved it! Entrepreneurship fascinates me and of course I have some business ideas I want to pursue. I love the freedom and flexibility of it. And how creative you can be.

I also love art, culture, food, travel and photography, and only after 8 years of interest I'm finally ready to buy my very first camera - I'm kinda really excited.

My all-time favorite quote is by Veronca A. Shoftstall, as it's quite long here is a little part I wanted to share: "...after a while you begin to accept your defeats with your head up and your eyes ahead with the grace of woman, not the grief of a child...you learn that you really can endure, you really are strong, you really do have worth..."

I look forward to getting to know the other bloggers and enjoy this experience with them!

"Go" by Aellen Ross

conversing 'til midnight, awake, but dreaming things until twilight, The firelight burns, Admidst the cold breeze. We may have spoken, The endearing words. But things are not always, what they seemed to be.
Like a rose undergone withered, Imagine how once love was there.
Nothing stays forever, So does it fade, as often heard. The gone be with him. There the time be blamed 'cause the parting came. Didn't know that sweets do spoil, or only be it to people who recoil. You might not have pushed me away, but here i am, sitting on a molded clay.
Hearing you say,
"just leave, while i can still say go".

hope you like my poetry.
my message: never cry for a person who hurts you .. Just smile and say,
"thanks for giving me a chance to find someone better than you"

The Sacred Temples of God

Okay, before I make my next post, I have a confession to make; my psuedoname that I sometimes use is Chameleon777, but I am not using it this time.

******

The Sacred Temples of God

The Sacred Temples Of God

Doctrine and Covenants, Section 118, verse 89 states, "Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing; and establish a house, even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God."

Temples are places with such sacred organization and they are also sanctuaries where the Lord's Spirit may dwell safely within our hearts and broaden our minds if we allow ourselves to be helped and refined through the Atonement. They are in the world, but are separate from the world in that they are places where the work of the Lord can be done for both the salvation and exaltation of the living, but also the salvation and exaltation of they who are no longer alive.

The work of the Lord consists of saving ordinances, which are physical acts that, when reverently completed with pure intent, show both willingness and commitment to take the name of Christ upon ones self just like He was willing to take our sins upon Himself to save us from eternal darkness.

It has often been speculated that the temples are a big secret and exclusive to only a small group of individuals, but that is definitely incorrect. Temples are sacred and what goes on within the holy walls of one is even more so, as the work is not only done for the living to help themselves turn from sinners into saints and someday, into Gods; the work is also done so the dead can become alive again.

Those who have made themselves a member of the Church of Jesus Christ and who have also made themselves worthy, and have also acquired a special recommendation following a personal interview with their bishop, to enter may do so and help the work of the Lord progress if they so wish to; it is a sacred responsibility and a monumental journey to help in the Lord's work, but it is worth it.

These ordinances and covenants cannot be completed except through the guidance of the holy Priesthood of God, which is the power and authority to act in God's name.

In 1st Corinthians, which can be found in the Bible, chapter three, verse 17, it says, "If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are."

Priesthood is something that cannot be bought, but making poor choices can make men's ability you use that priesthood difficult and sometimes near impossible; when men turn away from or dishonor their priesthood, it is like selling their soul to Satan in exchange for temporary pleasure that does nothing beneficial. To dishonor priesthood is to dishonor the sacrifice that Christ made so that all men who are worthy and desiring to have the responsibility may carry it with high honors.

Taking part in the Lord's work is a sacred responsibility; can we rise to our potential and move forward in faith one step at a time? Why should we be scared to act in the name of Jesus Christ?

(Now, is this good or should I add more? Comments, please!)

Note: These are my words and my photos. Please DO NOT steal them.

The Little Things: Today and Everyday

We're already swiftly moving through 2014 with the start of February. I'm not one to make resolutions at the start of each year because I believe in daily goal setting and lifestyle changes. If there is something you want to accomplish, it is the daily goals and changes we make in our lives that will make all the difference. If you want to feel joy and happiness in your life, I believe it is appreciating and loving the small things that will make it so.

I've taken 2014 to be a year of enjoying the little things in life. And 'finding joy in the journey'. This is one of my favorite quotes:

"I still get wildly enthusiastic about little things… I play with leaves. I skip  down the street and run against the wind."
Leo  Buscaglia

As well as:

"There is a beauty and clarity that comes from simplicity that we sometimes do not appreciate in our thirst for intricate solutions…we shouldn’t wait to be happy until we reach some future point, only to discover that happiness was already available—all the time! Life is not meant to be appreciated only in retrospect."
Dieter F. Ucthdorf

Kid President is a YouTube sensation and one of my favorite little characters from world wide web. Perhaps it's his cuteness that adds to this fun and simple yet awe-inspiring message. Sometimes we just need a pep talk. Enjoy.

My Little Tote Bag

One summer in my late youth years, I attended one of the most exciting summer vacations that every young people are looking forward to. On the first day of the camp, we settled in at our cottage then proceeded to the thrilling game arena to seek for treasure on our Treasure Hunt game. It was a great game because we won the first prize. It was a hot afternoon but we had a fresh, cooling and beautiful training. I could remember the smell of the summer breeze and the rush air from the great waters nearby that sways my hair then touches my soft cheeks and an adoring feeling when our trainer, one of sisters from the Relief Society quorum, taught us how to make a small basket out of beads. I could see the excitement on every young woman as they examined how these decent things were made. My eyes captured the little red tote bag. It was so amazing that I kept on starting at it then finally playfully wear it on my shoulder on every angle until I’m interrupted with the call to start. Sis. Arvie explained the theories and how the beads work. She handed us the materials that we’re going to use. She walked us through with the process in creating our own project. We desperately followed each instructions and helping each other when one was left behind. We used different methods up until were done. Some were perfectly made while the others were in tight judgment. Some were made with a fancy combination of colors and the others are of one-toned colored baskets.
Right after that memorable incident, I created other stuff like cell phone holder and coin purse out of beads and even ventures to business. Months passed by but I still adore the red tote bag. I went to Sister Arvie’s house and borrow the bag. During that time, I am rendering my OJT (On-the-Job) training at our school administrator’s office our school treasurer showed amazement with the bag and gradually loving it even desiring one for her daughter. I told her that I’m still working on it but she insisted anyway. There, my business began. Though, there are times that my business was bankrupt because of my demanding work but I’m still pursuing on it.

Whenever I looked on all my collections especially the cute Tote bag, I was always thought of a virtues woman. Different, unique and peculiar to any other woman around them. A divine woman who embraces the innocence of a young girl. Just like my Tote bag out of beads in a bag stall in a shopping mall. Some bags were completely the same. Some were made of man-made leather and any other expensive fabric in town. In the stall your eyes will definitely caught the Tote bag made of beads because it is unusually. Different from any other bags, it is made with a cordial heart and a gentle hands that gives its great importance in this world. :D
